The Diego Fund has been established in memory of our very first rescue dog, Diego (formerly Dino).  Diego's "owners" decided that after 12 years he was no longer a member of their family, if he ever was, and discarded him like a piece of trash.  Left alone in a cold, dark garage, a neighbor was his only source of human contact each day as he was fed and let out.  We received a plea from fellow rescuers to help this 12 year old American Bulldog and without hesitation we agreed.  Diego was surrendered over to us, placed in a foster home and provided with the urgent vet care he so desperately needed.  He was anemic and malnourished, had a mass in his mouth that needed removed along with 12 teeth that needed removed, blood in his urine, an enlarged prostate from not being neutered and was partially deaf.  The pictures below show what Diego looked like when we first got him and a transformation can be seen over the course of the next year while in his foster/forever home.  We are forever grateful to everyone who supported our fight for Diego; those who donated and shared his story and to his real family who fostered and later adopted Diego and who were with him until his final moments.  This is the face of rescue.  This is why we continue to fight.  This is who your donations help.
